Jesus Christ!...

Semi-decent weekend which culminated with a visit to the Shoreditch Underground - the tube station that was once Shoreditch on the East London Line has been reopened and is currently being used as a club.

What a sick venue - I'll be reviewing the night on Resident Advisor so keep your eyes peeled for that.

The 2020 Vision: Day & Night event took place at Shoreditch during the day and Village Underground just round the corner at night.

DJs including Steve Bug and Maya Jane Coles were on the line-up. LARGE.

Had a great time, although had to be at work for 7.30am today so couldn't really let loose like I wanted to.

Enough waffle anyway... this is a track that was played towards the end of the day event - funnily enough, I often have the chorus playing over and over on the jukebox in my head. Strange but true.

Tale Of Us Do It Again...

Definitely up there as one of my favourite production outfits at the moment, Italian duo Tale Of Us (Karm & Matteo Milleri) have dropped another bomb with this excellent remix of Dj T's track Sense (ft. James Teej).

My New York friend Emilano and I have been obessessing about the track since we heard it at the Visionquest party in Miami.

In fact, you can see me acting the fool to it in Emi's video below.

The description on the YouTube video is absolutely perfect.

"Newcomers Tale Of Us continue their journey into dark minimalism, with a remix that isolates the percussion and vocals, shrouding both in reverb for maximum atmospheric effect. A sense of unease pervades through the saturated bassline and slow delayed handclaps, creating frosty mists and dark corners within the synth-tech house arrangement."

They put it a damn sight better than I ever could.

SICK track, these guys are on fire at the moment. (See!)

Check out my other Tale Of Us posts HERE and HERE.... oh and HERE ...

Manic Monday...

I had one of the LONGEST days at work I've had for ages on Monday... by 'long' I don't mean I worked crazy overtime or anything, in London we use the term long in reference to something that's a pain in the arse or annoying as well.

But there were a couple of tunes that saved my sanity and got me through the day. And I've posted them below. Haven't heard either played out yet, when I do there'll be some kind of idiotic, frenzied reaction I can imagine.

Laura Jones - Love In Me

Maceo Plex - Can't Leave You

And this has been in my head for most of today.

The Bar Kays - Anticipation

I Wish I Was Going To Detroit (Sigh)...

Well it pains me to say it but, unless some kind of miracle happens and I win the lottery or some kind of good luck angel takes pity on me, I'm not going to make it to this year's DEMF (Detroit Electronic Music Festival) or Movement as it's also called.

At the same time as that's all happening next week, some of Ibiza's opening parties are kicking off too including Circoloco madness at the mighty DC10.

Although I'm trying not to think about it, I'm definitely feeling a little glum that I'm missing out on both of these special occasions. Makes it worse that I haven't been to a club in almost two weeks.

Moan, moan, moan...

Here's a supreme set from the maestro Seth Troxler recorded at DEMF in 2009 when he performed on the Made In Detroit stage.

As always with Seth it's top class from the opening track.

Much respect to Rico Passerini - one of Soundcloud's uploading Gods!

Lucky Seven...

Mean bassline on this one.

Screw your face up like it's the late 80s... or maybe gurn your chops off. One of the two.

Hercules - 7 Ways

In My...

Oooofffff.... deep, dark and dirty (yes, I sound like a cheesy radio DJ but I don't care).

This track dragged me down into a damp, sweaty dungeon the other week, tied me up and proceeded to slap me in the face with a wooden panel while telling me what a pathetic little shit I am.

Wicked tune.

Big thanks to Richard Sen for putting on to this one with his fresh new Spring Mix.

The Gathering - In My System (The Revenge Remix)

While I'm here, I have to say Guy Gerber's mix for Cuepoint.tv is a SMASHER. And their description of his lush production is absolutely spot on. I don't know where he gets those sounds from (especially the basslines) but he blows me away with every track.

Check it out - 2 hours of great, really-well produced, techno music. Turn it up loud the bass will blow your brains out.

Kickin'...

I can't believe we used to use the term "kickin" to describe something that's good. Well, I didn't but back in the day certain people did.

This tune here was, at one stage, the soundtrack to my life. I could not get it out of my head. Magnetic Man went IN on Skream's Rollin' Kickz - this is such a serious piece of music, the atmosphere sends shivers down my spine. It's like the theme tune to the inner workings of my mind.

New Year...

Here's a video from NYE... this is how I spent my New Year's Eve. Raving to Seth Troxler and co at the wicked Eastern Electrics night in London Bridge.

This was taken down a while ago, but looks like it's back up. Brilliant.

Here's the countdown too, when Jamie Jones dropped this lovely Nicolas Jaar remix.

Azari & III - Into The Night (Nicolas Jaar Remix)

Big L...

I'm not a massive Hip-Hop guy, although I like it and I was really into it for a short while back in 1996. I used to listen to Max LX and Dave VJ on Kiss FM every Wednesday, before the drum and bass show every week...

Enjoyed it a lot, have to say Big L (RIP) was/is one of my favourite MCs.

Here two of his tunes that I really like a hell of a lot.

Big L - How Will I Make It?

Big L - Devil's Son

And this was a TUNE back then...

Tracey Lee - The Theme (It's Party Time)

Def Squad - Full Cooperation

Time Flies...

No it really does, this week has flown by in a flash. I really struggled to think of a title for this post (even though the first song I sticking up is time-related) and then it popped into my head, all slotted into place.

Art Department - Tell me Why (Part I)

As well as Seth Troxler's Essential Mix, I've been rinsing the shit out of Leon's mix for Social Kids. The second I saw his name connected with a mix I had to download it straight away, Like This Like That is a firm favourite of mine so it was obvious I'd enjoy his mix.

This filthy little track is the one that really stod out for me, rolling and dirty - perfect.

Buck - Love Saves

Gotta say I'm really looking forward to M A N I K's album Armies Of The Night. The guy straight kills it with his productions.

Like this...

And completely unrelated to the music above, but I fucking LOVE this so much.

Editors - Blood

See Lek Shun...

I'm not only about house/techno ...

If you go way back to the older posts on this blog you'll see that I listen to loads of other stuff as well. Not that I have to prove myself, but you may be a new reader and think I'm only way inclined. Not so.

One of my all-time favourite songs, and I really couldn't give a shit what people think, is this:

But then these are also firmly rooted in my personal favourites...

And finally for now...

(No titles on these because I'm a bit tipsy and do not care!)

Won Undred...

So I've made it to 100 posts, mad. I didn't think I'd be able to maintain the blog to this point when I first started and it's been inconsistent at times, but here I am on one hundred posts.

It's certainly changed a bit, music-wise, since it began but it's a reflection of my life/tastes and will no doubt continue to evolve and change as I do.

And to celebrate, here's one of my favourite tracks of recent months... Tale Of Us AGAIN. The third release on my beloved Visionquest label - the Dark Song EP, which includes the title track and Circle Of Love feat. Fadila. Three lovely songs.

Anyway. This is Valiant, such an apt title.

Tale Of Us - Valiant

Boilo Room...

Sick set here from Oneman and Jamie XX at the Boiler Room.

I was privileged enough to catch Oneman play at Snowbombing and, even luckier, spent some time chatting with him backstage at the Arena club in Mayrhofen. Cool guy and very good at what he does too.

Check out Oneman's blog, always lots of interesting updates on there.

ONEMAN & HIS BLOG

Laziest Sunday Ever...

Today I woke up at around 4.30pm after a messy night at my friend Emma's 80s-themed house party... tons of 80s classic got played, and I got done ska style, porkpie hat, braces, Fred Perry polo, Dr Marten's boots (burgundy) and wayfarer shades. Uh huh!

Anyway, last weekend I headed to Fabric to catch a bit of Benoit & Sergio - anyone familiar with my blog will know that I'm a huge fan of the pair, so I anticipated a good night ahead. I wasn't disappointed either, their set was great... and they dropped a naughty new track of theirs which is a total bomb. Can't wait to hear it again. Fortunately I got to chat with them both after their set (I'd already had a chat with Sergio in Miami) - some interesting stuff on the way from the duo. Plus I'm going to be interviewing them soon too.

This went down a storm at Fabric, monster track..

Benoit & Sergio - Let Me Count The Ways

Today I've had Seth Troxler's Essential Mix for Pete Tong on Radio 1 on repeat for nearly the whole day, love it. And just now I found that the set he played for Rescue Beats in Panama has finally been uploaded on to RBMA radio, so I'm now listening to that. Happy days.

Visionquest (Seth Troxler & Ryan Crosson) - Rescue Beats, Panama (Part 1)

Visionquest (Seth Troxler & Ryan Crosson) - Rescue Beats, Panama (Part 2)

Finally a few personal loves of mine right now - including this BANGER that was basically an anthem for my friend Tristan and myself when we were in Miami.

Julio Bashmore - Battle For Middle You

Deniz Kurtel - Make Me Feel

Steffi ft. Virginia - Yours (Original Mix)

Stimming - Change

Oldie But A Goodie...

...well, not that old really.

Sun is still shining in London town, and this is a perfect summery tune to accompany the happy weather.

The Juan Maclean - Happy House (Chateau Flight Vocal Remix)
